When the old Cornish Bank premises at St Columb Major became redundant in May 2017 it looked set to sit idle like so many similar premises. That was until Richard Balding and his wife Sarah came along with a vision for something special! What followed was an extensive restoration project ultimately transforming the disused commercial building into an extraordinary family home.
Richard and Sarah championed the use of local tradespeople and resources and sourced British-made products throughout. Their amazing journey is cataloged on George Clarke’s Remarkable Renovations and features a remarkable creation in their Master Bathroom. Using scrap metal from the old bank vault we created a truly unique bath – from and of the property. Our “Le Vingt Neuf Bathtub” now takes pride of place in their bedroom – a little bit of history in this modern transformation. Surely one of the most ingenious examples of recycling ever!
The Master En Suite also featured our signature La Cage Shower in Aged Brass and matching brassware throughout. Teamed with thoughtful antique pieces and reclaimed Mahogany from the building’s original joinery, each room has its own personality with a nod to the past.
